Winter: Walking Fearward
Element: Water
Organs: Kidneys, Bladder
In the Body: Affects bones, knees, lower back, genitalia, urethra
In the Mind: Brings heightened alertness
In the Spirit: Brings resurrection of desire for life
Emotion: Fears and Phobias (Emotions are not meant to be static conditions within us.)
Technically, fear is an apprehension of a future event, real or imagined. A simple cure is to bring yourself present. Bring your attention to the moment-to-moment sensations of the body.
Reassurance is fear’s antidote. Put known facts under our feet, step by step! Make sure they are legitimate and solid.
Activity slows in winter and we can see the bones of the world. Now should be our season of rest and quiet reflection. By resting, we renew our resources for the busy doing of spring. By reflecting, we can see the roots of our lives and learn from our inner wisdom. Is all well at the roots?
In older times, the beginning of winter was the time to evaluate the storehouse. Good housewives jingled their keys and asked, “What resources do we have? If spring comes late, how can we get through the hard time coming?”
Ask yourself now, “What gifts do I have of the mind and body and spirit? What do I have in the way of loved ones, money, and possessions? How can I be a better steward of my goods, so that I have more to share and less to fear?”
The gift of winter as our quietest season is listening – listening to the people in your life and to your own intuitive knowing. Do not react. Be as open and receptive as the winter landscape.
Make lots of fires and cook lots of soup. We are each other’s resources, so take good care of yourself, take good care of the people and organizations you love, and encourage others to do the same.
